Sandro Steinbach

Education: PhD in Economics from ETH Zurich


Sandro Steinbach is the Director of the Agricultural Risk Policy Center at North Dakota State University. His research focuses on agricultural policy, risk management, and international trade, with a particular emphasis on how market and policy shocks influence global supply chains, investment behavior, and economic welfare. He employs applied microeconomic and data-intensive methods to analyze structural changes in agricultural markets and trade systems. His work has been published in leading journals such as Applied Economic Perspectives & Policy, Food Policy, and Nature Communications, and he ranks among the top 6% of economists on RePEc based on publications over the past decade. Dr. Steinbach has received several national research awards, including the 2024 Outstanding Published Research Award from the Western Agricultural Economics Association and the 2024 Farm Foundation Trade and Sustainability Fellowship. He has served as a Guest Editor for major journals and held leadership roles with the International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium. He holds degrees from Humboldt University of Berlin, UC Davis, and ETH Zurich, and was previously on the faculty at the University of Connecticut.
